The 10th of October is World Mental Health Day, an initiative of the World Federation of Mental Health.
The theme this year is ‘Mental Health and older adults’. This is an opportunity for Bodywhys to raise awareness of the issue of eating disorders among older adults.
There is a misconception that eating disorders only affect young women. At Bodywhys, it is our experience that eating disorders affect people across a range of backgrounds, including men and women, young and old. This is reflected in those who contact our support services.
Asking for help and support can be a daunting experience, but it is often the first step in the road to recovery. Bodywhys works in partnership with organisations such as See Change to reduce mental health related stigma.
