Therapists’ Experiences of Client Embodiment in Eating Disorder Therapy

Researcher, Emma Parkinson, of IICP College is currently carrying out a study titled ‘Therapists’ Experiences of Client Embodiment in Eating Disorder Therapy’
Study aims:
  • to explore the relationship between (dis)embodiment and ED therapy
  • to ascertain the current evidence-based guidelines for ED therapeutic treatment
  • to appraise these guidelines through the lens of embodiment theory
  • to explore how therapists interviewed conceptualise EDs
  • to examine how interviewees approach and develop treatment plans for clients with EDs
  • to develop an understanding of how, or if, incorporating embodiment into ED treatment could enhance client recovery, and inform our understanding of the aetiology and maintaining factors of EDs
Ideal participants for this study are pre-accredited or accredited counsellors or psychotherapists who have experience in working with clients with EDs or disordered eating. Participation involves one 30-45 minute online interview.
