Bodywhys – The Eating Disorders Association of Ireland – welcomes the recent announcement by Minister of State for Mental Health and Older People, Mary Butler TD, confirming the commitment to expand specialist adult eating disorder bed capacity and to enhance six priority acute mental health units as part of the Department of Health’s Sectoral Plan 2026-2030.
Harriet Parsons, Chief Executive Officer at Bodywhys, said:
‘When someone is acutely unwell, timely access to specialist inpatient treatment is vital – delays can have profound and lasting consequences. This investment is a critical step toward ensuring that the needs of adults affected by eating disorders are met, and that specialist inpatient beds are available when and where they are needed’
