An exploration of Orthorexia Nervosa tendencies in young adults in Ireland

Researcher at University College Dublin, Shakira Browne, is carrying out a study titled ‘An exploration of Orthorexia Nervosa tendencies in young adults in Ireland’.

The study aims to further inform the current understanding regarding whether Orthorexia Nervosa tendencies are more related to eating disorder tendencies or obsessive-compulsive tendencies. The researcher notes that this debate is one of the primary reasons why orthorexia is yet to receive diagnostic status. The results of this study are intended to make a small contribution to this debate.

If participants decide to take part in this study, they will complete a survey which will take approximately 5-10 minutes. The survey will consist of a range of questions regarding eating disturbances, OCD, and intolerance to uncertainty. Participants will be instructed to rate their level of agreement with these statements on a scale.

This study has received ethical approval from the School of Psychology Research Ethics Committee within University College Dublin
