Skin signs

Eating disorders can affect many systems in the body including

  • Hematologic
  • Electrolyte levels
  • Bone health
  • Sleep problems

A person’s metabolism can also be disrupted when they’re unwell. Key nutrients, for example, zinc, iron, vitamins A and D, and essential fatty acids may be affected too.

Itching Reaction to laxatives and diuretics e.g. hives
Dry, scaly skin Difficulty maintaining body warmth
Skin peeling Painful pustules on fingertips
Skin discolouration Dermatitis (inflammation)
Russell’s sign (knuckle calluses) Fissuring of the lips
Poor wound healing Erythema lesions of the face, neck, and arm regions
Bluish discoloration and cold sensations in the hands and feet
