Post-exam period can intensify eating disordered behaviour
Bodywhys - the Eating Disorders Association of Ireland - today urged exam students to seek support for eating disorders in the coming weeks.
For those affected by eating disorders, exams and the associated pressures can result in the development of eating disordered behaviours, or the intensification of an existing issue.
When the exams come to an end, the sudden release of pressure, and the absence of a structured routine, can have a disorientating effect. This is the time that people with an eating disorder need support.
Jacinta Hastings, CEO of Bodywhys, said "When the exams end, many students find themselves in a 'void' and don't know where to turn. For some this can trigger negative feelings or heighten pre-existing behaviours.
"After months of focussing on exams, students now need to focus on seeking appropriate support.
"The Bodywhys helpline is available throughout the summer months and provides support and guidance for anyone affected by eating disorders."
